Drain Cleaning & Hydro Jetting

Fullerton's tap water is very hard, about 14 grains per gallon in the city's 2025 data, and the mineral crust it lays inside a drain gives grease and soap a rough surface to hold on to. Age adds a second cause: about 71 percent of the city's homes were built in 1979 or earlier, so cast iron drains and clay laterals are common here, and roots from mature street trees find their joints. Before choosing a tool, we put a camera down the line. When the picture shows scale, grease or roots, we usually reach for the hydro jetter, because it washes the full wall of the pipe instead of punching one narrow hole through the middle.

Why a Fullerton drain keeps closing up

Repeat clogs in this city usually trace to one of three things. The first is mineral scale: water near 14 grains per gallon leaves a crust in traps and drain lines, and grease and soap build on top of it. The second is age. Cast iron rusts from the inside into a rough, shrinking bore, and clay laterals were laid in short sections whose joints let roots in. The third is what people send down: kitchen grease, and wipes whose package says flushable. A cable only bores a hole through any of these, so the line gets filmed before anyone picks a tool.

A jetter's nozzle fires water backward at high pressure. That thrust drags the hose up the pipe while the spray scrubs the whole circle of the wall, trims roots at the joints and flushes the debris toward the main. The footage sets the pressure for each run: full for sound PVC or ABS, lower for cast iron that has thinned, and none at all for a clay joint already split by roots, which goes on the repair list instead. In the preservation-zone bungalows of College Park and Brookdale Heights, and the still older houses of Townsite East, that judgment counts for more than anywhere else in town.

In Fullerton the property owner answers for the whole sewer lateral, from the building out to its connection with the city main: usually a 4-inch line, joining a main at least 8 inches across that runs in the street or along a rear easement. We clean, film and repair that whole pipe. If the camera finds roots from a city-maintained tree, ask the city about its Sewer Lateral Maintenance Program; with a serviceable lateral and a 4-inch directional cleanout at the front of the house, the city may clean the line about once a year after an inspection. Every job closes with a second camera run, so you can hold the before and after footage side by side.

What comes with each drain job

  • C-36 Plumbing license #1131308 behind every drain we clear
  • 24-hour emergency response once sewage reaches a tub, shower or floor drain
  • No cleaning until you have approved a written estimate
  • The work itself backed by our written workmanship warranty

Signs your drains need attention

  • Gray water still standing in the tub long after the shower is off
  • Two or three fixtures going slow together, starting with the lowest one
  • A gurgle from the toilet while the washing machine pumps out
  • The same clog returning a few weeks after the last snaking
  • A sewer odor in a bathroom or around the cleanout in the yard
  • A big street or yard tree growing above an old clay lateral

Camera first, with you watching

The camera enters at the cleanout and you follow it on the screen, from the house to the clog and the pipe past it.

The tool that fits what we found

Hair and soap in a sink or tub line come out with a cable. For grease, roots, mineral crust and rusted cast iron, the jetter does the work.

Filmed again at the end

The camera goes back in once the cleaning is done, and the footage should show bare pipe on every side.

Habits for a Fullerton kitchen

You leave with the Orange County Sanitation District's own advice: scrape pans, let grease cool in a can for the trash, and flush only toilet paper, since wipes sold as flushable still cause clogs.

How we clean drains for Fullerton homes

From Fullerton we answer drain calls across Orange County, and four practices go with each one, because a line that is only partly open simply plugs again.

You see it before and after

Footage of the clog comes before the work and footage of the clean pipe comes after, and the difference is yours to judge.

Every side of the pipe

Under the jet, scale, grease and roots leave the full circumference, where a cable would leave most of the buildup in place.

Water, not chemicals

Plain water drives the jetter. Drain chemicals sold in stores attack old cast iron and the fittings around it, so between visits an enzyme product is the gentler choice.

A broken pipe is shown, not cleaned again

Should the camera find a cracked hub, an open clay joint or a sag that holds water, the work stops and you see it. A cleaning that cannot last is not worth paying for, so we do not offer one.

Why drain jobs are not all priced the same

Getting in comes first. A kitchen trap or a cleanout beside the foundation is simple to reach, and many tubs clear through the overflow. Many older houses were built without a lateral cleanout; reaching the line then means going in from the roof vent or pulling the toilet, which adds setup. A 4-inch directional cleanout at the front of the house fixes that for good, and it is also what the city looks for under its lateral maintenance program. In a condo, a plugged stack that serves several units can mean coordinating with the association.

The method and the pipe matter next. Cabling a single fixture is lighter work than jetting the lateral end to end, and a clay line full of roots is filmed before anything else. A break found on camera turns into a separate repair: on the property it needs a permit from the city's Building and Safety Division, and digging in the street, an alley or an easement also needs a public works permit.

The camera run tells us what is inside; then the price goes on paper, and cleaning begins once you agree to it.

Drain calls around Orange County

Fullerton is where we are based. A drain call anywhere else in the county is sent to the closest of our 10 company locations.

Fullerton

Clay laterals and cast iron under the 1920s and 1930s houses of College Park, the Muckenthaler district and Lower Golden Hill, kitchen lines crusted with hard water scale in the Sunny Hills and Fullerton Groves ranch tracts, shared stacks in condos, and the younger drains of Amerige Heights.

La Habra and Placentia

Our Fullerton location covers La Habra, just over the northern city line. Placentia, along the eastern border, is closest to our Brea location, with Fullerton the next nearest. In both cities, a lateral repair is permitted by that city, not by Fullerton.

Buena Park, La Palma and Stanton

West and southwest of Fullerton, these three cities are handled from our Fullerton location, the nearest one to each. Where the owner's share of a lateral ends can vary by city, so we confirm it with that city before quoting work near the main.

Anaheim and the rest of the county

Anaheim, along Fullerton's southern border, is nearest our Orange location, with Fullerton next in line. Garden Grove, Cypress, Westminster, Santa Ana, Huntington Beach, Irvine, Laguna Hills and the rest of the county's cities and communities are served from whichever of our locations is closest.

Drain cleaning questions, answered

Jetting does not hurt sound pipe. Pipe that is already failing is the risk, and the camera run finds it; thin cast iron or a parted clay joint goes on the repair list and never sees full pressure.

A snake opens a hole; a jetter cleans a pipe. Water drains through the hole a snake leaves, but the buildup around it stays put and narrows the line again, while a jetted line is clean from wall to wall and keeps flowing far longer.

Fullerton's 1920s and 1930s cast iron and clay can usually take a jetter, once the camera confirms their condition and the pressure is lowered for any thin section. A root-split joint in clay calls for a repair, not a cleaning.

Pricing differs from drain to drain: the blocked line, how we reach it, the equipment and the hunt for the trouble all count, and the written price comes after the camera run, before any cleaning.

Most homes never need jetting on a calendar. Commercial kitchens are one exception, since grease is exactly what the city's F.O.G. Control Program tries to keep out of the sewer. Older houses with a city tree over a clay lateral are another: once or twice a year keeps roots from closing the line again.

Common questions

Drain Cleaning & Hydro Jetting: what Fullerton callers ask

Snake or jetter: which will you use?
Whatever the camera calls for. A single soft clog near one fixture, with clean pipe on both sides, is cable work. Lines that close up again and again usually show a lining of grease over hard water scale, or roots growing in at the joints, and only pressurized water strips that lining; a cable slides right past it.
Can I see the inside of my drain?
Yes. When a clog keeps returning, we film the line and you watch the screen beside the plumber. A root mass, a crack, a sag that holds water and cast iron rusted through each look different, and each has its own fix.
Does the City of Fullerton clean my sewer lateral?
Usually not. Under Fullerton Municipal Code 12.08.031 the owner maintains the whole lateral, building to main, including the part under the street. The exception is the city's Sewer Lateral Maintenance Program: when roots from a city-maintained tree are the problem, the lateral is serviceable and there is a 4-inch directional cleanout at the front of the house, the city may clean it about once a year after its own inspection. We can install that cleanout and share the footage with you.
Why is the kitchen sink always the slow one?
Kitchen lines collect grease, and Fullerton's hard water leaves scale for the grease to grab. Over time the two harden into a lining that narrows the pipe below the trap, out of reach of a plunger. Jetting removes it. The Orange County Sanitation District's advice keeps it from coming back: scrape or wipe pans, let grease cool in a can and put the can in the trash.

Leak, backup or burst pipe

Day or night, this phone is picked up by a person.

Close the main water valve first. In most Fullerton houses that valve sits on the pipe entering the building, or else in the curbside meter box. Once it is off, call us; we stay on the line with you, and a plumber comes out from the nearest of our locations.
